Labiaplasty

BE YOUTHFUL
FEEL YOUR BEST

Changes to the body due to aging are not confined to the face. You may also notice changes in your
genital area that cause physical discomfort and embarrassment. The vaginal lips, known as the labia,
can begin to stretch and extend beyond the opening of the vagina, making some activities that you
once enjoyed more challenging, and in some cases uncomfortable or painful.

Who is a Candidate for Labiaplasty?

You may decide Labiaplasty is the right choice for you if you have any
of the following concerns:

  • Vaginal lips that protrude beyond the vaginal opening
  • Pain during intercourse or other activities
  • Labia are visible when wearing a bathing suit or workout clothing
  • Inability to perform some activities due to discomfort
  • Skin irritation or frequent infections in the vaginal area

LABIAPLASTY TECHNIQUES WE PERFORM

Who is a Candidate for Labiaplasty?
Changes to the body due to aging are not confined to the face. You may also notice changes in your
genital area that cause physical discomfort and embarrassment. The vaginal lips, known as the labia,
can begin to stretch and extend beyond the opening of the vagina, making some activities that you
once enjoyed more challenging, and in some cases uncomfortable or painful.
Initially, there was a single procedure for labiaplasty, and it was very popular as well. With the change
of time and advancement in techniques, several techniques have evolved.
Some of them are as follows:

Trim Technique

During this procedure, excess skin is removed from the
edge of the labia minora to create a smoother contour.
This procedure may be good for women with less
protrusion, due to its easier recovery, however the
outcome is not always as aesthetically pleasing.

Wedge Technique

This excision method tends to be the most popular
with labiaplasty patients, because it produces the most
natural result. A triangular piece of tissue is removed
from the inner labia, known as the labia minora, and
may also include removal of a portion of the outer
labia or labia majora. This technique is particularly
beneficial for women with a significant amount of
protrusion.

Recovery

In general, there is a quick recovery after labiaplasty,
although downtime may vary from patient to patient.
There may be slight discomfort, as well as initial swelling
in the genital region after the surgery. The use of cold
compresses can help to reduce swelling and a
prescription for pain medication will be provided to
reduce any further discomfort.
Patients can normally resume daily activities after about
one week of downtime; however, more physical
activities, including sex, will need to be avoided for a
longer period of time; commonly 6-8 weeks for
swelling to subside and before resuming sexual
activities. During the post-operative appointments, Dr.
Peña can go into further detail about the length of
downtime your particular case will require.

Results | What To Expect

Once healed, women will notice a considerable
difference in the appearance of their vagina, seeing an
improvement in symmetry, neatness, and proportion.
Women may experience increased sensitivity of this
region. Oftentimes, this procedure provides women
with a new-found confidence and better functionality
of the vagina.
As stated above, this procedure only treats excess skin,
not troublesome fat that has accumulated in this region.
For fully comprehensive results, additional
procedure(s) may be necessary to provide the desired
results like liposuction.
